This artwork was inspired by the Southern coast of England. Having grown up in Mauritius, I have always loved the sea. There is something incredibly therapeutic about the sound of the waves. What struck me about this scene is the contrast between the high cliff with its swaying grass and the lighter effect brought upon by the sunset. I particularly enjoyed painting the little details like the rocks and the way the colours merged and danced in the sea, indicating shallow and deep waters. Everytime I look at this artwork, I am drawn to its peaceful composition and I almost want to be there, sitting on those cliffs, smelling the fresh sea breeze and looking at the sun as it sinks below the horizon and we are plunged into darkness.
